I play mp3 music stored on my PC through a 60W Cambridge
A5 integrated amplifier and 60W Tannoy Mercury F1
bookshelf speakers. This is a vast improvement over the
previous PC speakers.

However recently I bought a very old beaten up PA/guitar
60W active speaker for DJ work. To test it I connected it
as a central mono speaker to the above system. The result
was amazing - it's not hi-fi but it sounds like Paul
McCartney has just stepped up to a mic in your local pub.
The transients are in your face and you can hear every
person during the applause.

But unfortanatly, the active speakers amp is very noisy.
So I am wondering if I can improve on this; maybe
replacing the noisy components in the speaker amp or using
a passive speaker and a second amplifier?

The only space I have for a central speaker is 40cm x
46 cm by 48 cm deep. Its a odd size - almost square.

I have looked on ebay for speakers but they are either
small bookshelf or tall floorstanding - no medium-sized
square speakers.

Any thoughts on how I could move forward?
