What the Net need is

A Place where I can see if my ancient vinyl exists on cd
A place where I can price up my vinyl
A place where I can buy a cd of an ancient vinyl (I'm not a
collector, but a music lover)
A place where I can then place a free ad to sell that ancient vinyl.

I just want to automate my record collection and make a small profit

I bet you don't know any one who has Money by Barrett Strong on a 45
on a British label. You do now ! G I bet this is worth a few

The Net would certainly be a powerful tool to you but I don't think
you'll find a website which does all those things.

Simply using a search engine and typing in the artist name and the
name of a recording should help you with your first 3 requirements. I
find Google (www.google.co.uk) a very good search engine for doing
this. I also find enclosing the artist name and track title in quotes
helps reduce the number of unrelated results. For example "Barrett
Strong", "Money" rather than Barrett Strong Money.

If you can't find one of your recordings on CD, but would like to
listen to it more often, why not try one of the online vinyl to CD
transfer websites. I've just used a site called Your Music On CD
(www.indicativeit.co.uk/yourmusiconcd) and am very happy with the CDs
they've created for me. You could then keep your original vinyl in
tip-top condition whilst still being able to hear the music!

Finally, I guess as other people have mentioned, eBay would enable you
to offer your records for sale. And as another poster said, simply
posting a list of your recordings to uk.rec.audio.vinyl should enable
any determined hunter of your recordings to be able to contact you.
