Default "HiFi" is dead?

"Keith G" wrote in message

Where does he say "audio" is dead"? He says 'hi-fi as a hobby is dead' and
he's mostly right

If you'd read what I said you'd have noticed that I too largely agreed with
that statement.

But the OP went on to say that "we're just chewing over old bones here"
and, since this is an audio (not "HiFi") newsgroup the only valid
interpretation of the whole sentence is that he thinks "HiFi" and "audio"
are the same thing.

People use 'audio' stuff like kitchen appliances these days - switch it
on; listen to it (or probably not really listen to it); switch it off.
That's what 'digital' does - levels the playing field so that technical
considerations become a non-issue

As far as most people are/were concerned technical considerations always
were a non-issue, they bought the stuff and used it. It only ever was the
engineers and the enthusiasts who were concerned with technical issues. Well
the engineers are still here, but by and large the enthusiasts have moved on
to something else, such as motorbikes!
