If by pad you mean underlay, spikes I've used just do. Certainly helps a
lot with wobble, especially with small footprint floor standing speakers.

The tightly
woven jute backing and under pad is the problem.
The conical shape of spikes simply will not couple
to the sub-floor... and I mean tightly.

What do you mean by a sub-floor? Floor?!
