No I mean they record one track after another. Note sure what s/w they're
using - I think one of the lads has one of those evil[1] things with a
half-consumed fruit as a logo :-)

OK, by far the easiest and most intuitive way of doing this is normal
mics into a normal mixer. That can plug into a normal sound card on
any computer - even one of those evil empire fruit jobs. It also has
the advantage of maximum flexibility, and you can use everything for
other purposes too. The mixer can even be used for performances if
they (ok, you) decide to buy a high power PA and speakers. So it is a
question of whether you want to go along a route which is essentially
a dead end with USB or keep all your options open with a more
conventional method.
