True, you can regulate and filter but anything left will be more "hash" and
probably more in the hearing range of the ear.

True enough, but the induced 100Hz would be of far lower magnitude than
using a pure AC feed. As lordgnome says, he tried it a long time before
it entered my head, and with excellent results. I have it in the back of
my mind for years to design and build a setup worthy of my living room

A good hi-fi set up is a joy to behold (or listen to!), so I can
understand the aspiration. I think a lot of it is driven by a chequebook
mentality though, and those writing the cheques wouldn't have the
technical nous of our friends on the audio group. This thread is an
education in itself.
