Many people picked up on this outside UKRA in a very
short space of time. One even identified the Midi sound
generator, and played a horn figure amost identical to
the one that Arny had used.
It was easy to ABX the difference. No cigar.
No ABX required to hear the difference between
"Arny's horns" and the real thing:-)
Yo missed your own point, Iain.
There is *never* any problem hearing the difference between any recorded
horns and the real thing.
There is *never* any problem hearing the difference between real horns
listened to under different circumtstances, or even circumstances that one
tries to hold as constant as possible. Nautral audible variations abound in
the real world!
For one thing, horns don't have just one sound - their sound depends on
which actual instrument (Iain seems unaware of the audible differences
between instruments of the same general kind), the venue (Iain seems unaware
of the audible differences between venues of the same general kind), where
in that venue the listener is seated (Iain seems unaware of the audible
differences between locations in the same hall), and who is playing the
instrument (Iain seems unaware of the audible differences that players make
in the sound quality their instruments).
The "identified" sample was not AFAIK made available
to you, so how did you manage to ABX it?
Oh Iain, I thought you were talking about the one that was made available to
me, as any reasonable polite person would do.
What's that funny smell - anybody else getting it...??
:-)
