A courier staggered out of a blizzard this afternoon, (three inches of
snow here now), and delivered the Denon.
It was described in the auction as used and excellent.
A better description would have been.. Removed from box with kid
gloves, used for 10 minutes, 2 presets tuned in, carefully replaced in
original packing with all accessories, original interconnect, AM loop
and an unread manual then carefully stored for 20 years.
Not a scuff, mark or sign that it has ever been out of box before,
totally mint and 100% working order.
A quick reseat of the internal connectors and a going over with
contaclean and pipe cleaners and I've been listening to radio 3 with a
good loud burst of the Bob Harris* show, and yes it is an improvement
over the receiver, bass seems more extended and voices are more 'alive'
The Radio 3 burble is still there but can be silenced by using the
Super Narrow IF setting so maybe our aerial system is not quite
perfect. Listening on loudspeakers the background is effectively silent
On long wave very good, hardly any local interference and lots of
continental stations with just the loop.
Overall I am an exstatic (geddit) bunny.
* With all the space on DAB and Freeview, I think it's time for BBC
Radio Bob. He could time share with BBC Radio Mike Harding if he finds
the hours too much.
