I suspect that simply shows what you could have predicted. That items like
these are simply 'worth' whatever someone who happens to want one at the
time is willing to pay. Those who paid most simply drop out for later
auctions.

A dealer may be willing to wait and keep the price they are asking until
someone finally comes along who will pay. They have to judge the time they
will wait against how much extra that may give than a quick sale. But
auctions simply find the highest bidder at the time of the auction.
