I was flicking through a magazine in a waiting room the other day that was
so current (September 2010) and so incredible I stole it!
According to What HiFi Sound & Vision's 'Ultimate Guide to High End' the
world's 'best kit' includes items priced as follows:
Digital Media Player - Meridian Soolos 2.1 @ £7,000
CD Players - Naim CD555/555PS @ £16,395
Stereo Amplifiers - Plinius Tautoro/SA-Ref @ £18,975
Speakers - Wilson Audio Duette @ £11,950
Turntables - Clearaudio Innovation Wood/Universal/DaVinci V2 @ £12,900
And that's only the 'hifi', the AV section goes even wilder - the B&W
CT800 speaker system @ £67,950 fr'instance!
Now we know what some of those Bankers' Bonuses go on....
:-)
Years ago used to go to HiFi shows and some of the demos were absolutely
breathtaking. I remember going into one and about thirty of us were seated
in front of a stage with what resembled a fire curtain covering it. A man
then said the demo would start. It sounded like a full orchestra playing
classical music - outstanding. After a few minutes the curtains slowly
opened to reveal a solitary valve amp centre stage and two giant speakers
one each side. The rest of the equipment was hidden. What were they selling?
Not the valve amp - not the speakers. The 'kin mains lead! £250 odd.
