Default dilemma, speaker decision for different amplifiers

My first reaction is that it is a shame that he didn't also leave you some
upper case letters - and a return key to apply and create paragraphs. 8-]
However maybe you had to write your posting on something like a tiny phone
with no shift or return keys. Alas, the way your posting appears makes it
hard for me to read and that may reduce my ability to decypher the details.
But I will try to give a response in a format closer to normal written
English - ahem or at least as close as I personally can manage. :-)

cf below.

i am a bit puzzled about this the lowest power amplifier (leak tl20) i
think is 10 w1tts and when i have hocked it up to the 352 i have to be
conscious of the neighbours, if 10 watts is that loud 25 watts would
rightly have the neighbours complaining,

First point to note is that 25 watts with the same speakers isn't that much
louder than 10. And such ratings can sometimes be misleading.

Second is that how loud the speakers sound will depend on their rated
'sensitivity' not just any power rating. And, as above, a factor of two or
so won't make as much difference as you may think.

Hence from what you write I'd suspect that you would find a fair range
of speakers would give you as much loudness as you (and your neighbours!)
wish. All you'd need to do is adjust the volume control to suit.

So the bottom line is that the choice mainly depends on what *you* decide
you like the sound of, playing *your* taste in music at the level *you*
prefer in the acoustic of the room *you* are using.

To advise, others here may find it useful if you say something about your
taste in music and how much you'd expect to pay for new speakers. Also any
preferences between floor standing or stand mounted types, etc.

If you liked the 352s before the rasping, then you might consider seeing if
they can be repaired. If so, Monitor Audio may be worth asking about that.
Alternatively, others here may be able to point you at someone else who can
supply replacements or repair them. I'm sure MA would also happily tell you
which of their current models they'd urge you to buy. :-)

Slainte,

Jim
