If one of a pair has already failed, you can be
reasonably sure that the other is not too far behind it.
I really wouldn't go that way.

YMMV.

In the early 90s I had to replace a woofer with a rubbing voice coil in one
of a pair of Boston Acoustics CR-9s.

I'm using them to this day, every day.

when speaker is removed a i thought i spotted the problem a slightly
lifted dustcap which i reseated with some evo impact adhesive but not
before i had moved the cone in /out trying to detect any rubbing, all
appeared to be ok,reseated dustcap checked the spider seating at the
back but no success some we win some we .......lost cause
hey ho
