Music seems to satisfy some very basic human needs.

supporting evidence for that idea.

Yes, which seems self-evident. Music and music-makers seem to have a firm
niche in just about every human social pattern.

Should an audio engineer know?

Knowing not only what to do but why to do seems to be generally helpful.
