My understanding of the "Rolex thing" is that it's about status and
wealth.

Others might say it is an interest in quality, an appreciation
of the finer things in life:-)

Mr Looser thinks that people who get a lift from owning/wearing a Rolex
actually give a damn about what Joe Snot might think of it. My son loves
his Rolex - the bloody thing cost over 400 quid for a service last year!!

Morning Keith

Another thought that comes to mind is that many quality watches
are given either as corporate gifts, or as a reward for outstanding
achievement, or long service. In the latter two cases, this seems to
me to be something of which one can be justifiably proud.

I have two "ten year watches" and more pairs of gold and silver
presentation cufflinks than I can shake a stick at. I asked if
I might return the second watch after the presentation, and
exchange it for a pocket watch with a sweep/ stop second
hand which to me was much more useful.
