Others might be even more 'staggered' by your logic.

You seek out 'friends' who have the same beliefs in
things that interest you. Therefore all that share your
interests no matter where must also share your beliefs.


This is common among people who are frankly, less smart and/or insecure.
They crave reinforcement.

Smart people try to find people who don't exactly agree with them, but do
know how to act civilly.
