Lecson Preamp & Amp?
The Lecson Power amp has some pretty wierd driver stage transistors - The
numbers on them start with a D and no they're not 2s or anything else just a
D -but most of the rest is pretty standard (at least in the one I've got).
Mine's in daily use connected to this very computer and some (very) large
speakers and still sounds excellent. I was given it because it had spent
several years under the stiars ina photographic studio in an old railway
arch and didn't work. Just needed a couple of transistors and it's been OK
ever since. The only thing wrong with the design is the cheap DIN socketry.
I believe there are a few companies that specialise in outdated and hard to
find transistors thay may be able to get the driver stage transistors but I
never got that far as it worked with the little plastic transistors
replaced. No problems with the sliders either.
Cheers

Has anyone in the UK heard of Lecson Preamps & Amplifiers? I have two
preamps and a 100watt/ch cylindrical Amplifier. Is there any market for
them
in the UK? They were shown briefly in the movie "Clockwork Orange".
Wasn't this designed by Dave Aspinal about 1980 or thereabouts, or was
he involved in the Lentek outfit?. Another bunch located near the hub of
British Audio, around Huntingdon.
Designed by Boothroyd Stewart, before they went on to start Meridian. I
had
an AC1/AP3 combination and it sounded great until it self destructed in a
rather large cloud of smoke. I was advised at that point that the
transistors were custom jobs and no longer obtainable, but that might have
been total ********.
