So the question is: Who is that 'name' that stands out
for decent but good VFM recording gadgets (mixers and the
like) - is it Behringer? (Buggered if I can remember!)
And, if so, is there any particular recommendation?
Behringer's audio interfaces are generally simple and cheap.
Their UCA 202 is probably their best product in this category.
Also, if he wants 4 channels now, what the thinking: get
more channels as he is bound to need them as time goes
by? I've no real idea.
Nor do I. 4 could be enough channels for a guy with a guitar and a voice for
a long time.
Also also, I am under the impression that M-Audio is
reputable and reliable and I have said as much - is that
correct, any caveats?
M-Audio is good mid-priced supplier,

looks like a good choice. It has 4 mic preamps each with its own dedidicated
channel. Two of the mic inputs can also handle line-level inputs. The
remaining 4 inputs are line level only. Possible future expansion could
come via up to 4 additional mic preamps.
