Have you tried emailing sony? I wouldn't expect them to have protocols on
their main site - not of general interest to consumers, but they /might/
be more helpful if they hear you want to make them new software for free
(assuming it'd be freeware) that'd work on more diverse platforms (again,
I'm assuming). Most likely the bosses know their software's dire!

It's a long shot but a few big companies are starting to realise how
helping open source helps them.
