Story goes, he had a pair mic lines installed running from his room to the
nearby chapel that was used for musical performances - choirs and such.

The sound quality direct from the mics was, naturally enough, quite superb.

But when he used a 1/4 inch tape recorder, the playback was spoilt by noise.

He figured, there must be a way to fix this ....
