Making progress with this seems like wading though treacle!
I've been exchanging discussions with someone who has an E-MU 0202 and it
looks like that doesn't fully work with Linux so is ruled out. No-one (inc
Studiospares) seem to be bothered to respond to emails from potential
buyers of the items I've been asking about.
At present the most likely bet seems to be the Focusrite scarlett 2i2.
Got one of they, what do you want to do with it?..
However *they* have yet to answer an email I sent. But maybe they will
soon, who knows?
Failing any info I'll try and buy a 2i2. Which comes to the question of
which dealer? I'm reluctant to buy from Studiospares given their total
failure to show any sign they give a hoot for potential customers.
Anyone have experience with a UK retailer who sell things like this for
'prosumer studio/music' and who actually will *answer* emails.
Don't know as we have a branch of this lot in Cambridge, Digital
village, so I tend to go there but the staff are very helpful anyway on
the phone, never mailed them...
Even more,
then be willing to allow me to buy via letter+cheque rather than CC over a
website? Given the poor way people so far have reacted I admit I'm
reluctant to give any of them the trust of having my card details, etc.

When I bought mine they bundled it with quite a nice microphone and pop
shield
