Normally they are captive though and some of them had a hole through the
post to help the connection be more robust.
Technics speakers, at least to me tended to be a bit thuddy on bass, and
slightly metalic otherwise.

They are called "binding posts" No connectors needed, bare the end of
the wire, unscrew the nuts, wrap the wire round the threaded posts and
then screw the nuts back on trapping the wire.


It sounds like he's missing the nuts.

Lots of old speakers have these binding posts so you could get some from
another pair of speakers or simply find a nut that fits.
