They are called "binding posts" No connectors needed, bare the end of
the wire, unscrew the nuts, wrap the wire round the threaded posts and
then screw the nuts back on trapping the wire.
It sounds like he's missing the nuts.
Lots of old speakers have these binding posts so you could get some from
another pair of speakers or simply find a nut that fits.

Many thanks for the replies guys...I see now!...yes the nuts are missing but no problem,I was thinking it was some sort of special connector!....thanks again all.P.
