Not really up on what's around these days, but at one time a decent
compressor was one of the most expensive bits of 'outboard' gear in a
recording studio, etc.

I've still got a pair of Neve I used to cart around to use when faced with
Behringer, etc. Although it's possible there are decent digital ones at a
low cost these days.
