I've got round to actually having a listen to 252kHz (on my small Eton
E5 portable). Yes, if I null our RTE Radio 1 (which isn't very strong),
I can hear the 'French' station beneath. There was a lady speaking
French - but then there was some Arabian-sounding music. My guess is
that it IS the Algerian station.

Its actually very loud here and definitely sounds French to me.
Maybe the Algerian station has upped its power or something. Yes, it
is zero beat and very annoying as one cannot null it out without also
reducing the Irish station as well.
Of course on a long wire aerial its a total mess as there seems to be a
third station that sounds like eastern European in there as well!

It's unlikely to be French, as they have nothing on 252kHz - but it
could be Algerian, from Topaza (right on the Mediterranean coast). I
can sometimes hear it (sounds zero-beat) - especially if I don't
orientate the radio to null it out. However, could be the second
harmonic of the local oscillator beating with a medium wave station?
My small Eton E5 portable benefits from this 'feature'!
