I guess, but would you pay that amount for an amp that distorts by 4% at
full output? Or maybe the reviewers were influenced by the fact that the
amp was the most expensive in the test?


I'm *sure* that goes on to a degree. After all, when someone is faced with
a "super hi-fi gizmo" it is sometimes difficult to believe that it could
possibly sound worse than a cheaper alternative.

OTOH, we put up with valve amps quite happily and they can easily be
measured to be inferior to solid state. We actually *like* distortion to a
degree, so perhaps that's the answer.
