I prefer the term 'passive controller', and I use one myself, but an
Oxymoron is someone who couldn't get into Cambridge...... :-)

Oh, right, I didn't realise you weren't familiar with the term. It's
just a pot and a source selector switch in a box, or a pot and a pile
of relays in my case.
