Default Even by Hi-Fi snake oil gadgets standards, this one is quite baffling

In response to Brian's comments:

Audiophiles have always had a reputation for gullibility. As long as there is a
demand for audio snake oil, there will be purveyors in abundance.

I mentioned earlier, in another thread, about a colleague of mine who ran a pro
audio repair shop. When things were quiet, he used to make shielded mains cables
(a braided shield connected at the Schuko connector only) with a clear plastic
sleeeve over. Most impressive. Once the jigs were set up the cables were quick
and very cheap to produce. He sold them for 50e to a dealer in Sweden whose
customers mainly in the UK, paid UKP85, for a 2 metre cable. He was turning
them out in impressive quantities. It came to an end when the dealer found a
Chinese supplier who could supply a 1m50 cable for much less money. The retailer
lowered his price to 75e and sales increased!!

I can't comment about Russ Andrews, but if you want to know about audio "smoke
and mirrors" Brian, Magic Alex will interest you. He was the man who promised to
build the Beatles a 72-track analogue multitrack recorder at a time when the 4
track Studer J37 was state of the art. He also said that he would render studio
acoustic treatment, tiles, screens etc, as unnecessary by using an acoustic
"force-field" generated by six massive computers which be bought as redundant
technology from British Aerospace. Similarly, he claimed that a control to
studio "talkback" system would no longer be required as he could electronically
tune players/producers/engineers to the "same artistic wavelength". The Beatles
put him in charge of their technical R+D at Apple Electronics to design and
build there new studio in Saville Row. He brought them to to verge of
bankcruptcy.

I met Magic Alex at a party at the Saville Rowe premises. He certainly had some
"interesting" ideas.

Any idea what he was smoking at all?...

:-))

Much to his chagrin he (Magic Alex) was unable to demonstrate his forcefield acoustic as the LEB were (he said) unable to supply the current required without blacking out Oxford St, Regent St, and the southern end of Edgeware Rd. He had a contingency plan for the Underground and also BBC Maida Vale which may or may not have been affected.

Interesting chap:-))
