Default Cambridge P50 help

Hi again,

Have had a Cambridge P50 amp for some years and decided to plug it in.
Everything seems to work, except that the tape monitor seems weird;
selecting the tape monitor, the balance as well as the volume do not
work.
The only way to control the volume when listening to a cassette is via
the tape gain adjust knob in the back of the amp.
Using the aux input for cassettes works fine.
Is this normal? How is the tape monitor supposed to be used?

Again, anyone have a schematic the might be able to copy/scan for me?

regards,

nicolas

My first 'hifi' amp....... :-)

Sounds like it needs a cleanup inside and/or a bit of a service.....

Hi Nicholas

I know this is a bit obvious and you have, I'm sure, checked but it sounds
like the tape player is "wrong way round" with inputs reversed. In a fully
buffered tape loop you would just get zip. but if it's not proerly buffered
then.....

If that's the case you should get no signal onto tape

unless of course there is something very strange going on in your amp.....

q x-files theme and ...... fade...................................

Just a guess. Are you using a 5 pin to 5 pin DIN lead? It's just possible
that if it were a reversal type it's mixed up the inputs and outputs, and
the tape outs aren't buffered. If it's all on phonos, ignore this. ;-)
But can you record to the cassette in the normal way off the amp?

Does the amp have a switch on the back labelled 'processor' or 'av' or
somesuch. This behaviour would be expected if the amp has an AV power amp
mode and uses the tape input as the AV input.

:-)
