Another sodding (possibly OT) Show N Tell!! :-)
Those who don't like Show N Tell or *blogging* look away now!!
Offlist, I am getting some serious mentoring from Don, who is leading me
into delicious new territory, fakkin' abaht with recordings and sound
editing/authoring (?? - whatever) - thus, here is my very first *multitrack*
clip:
http://www.apah69.dsl.pipex.com/show...down%20MP3.mp3
(It's small and it's mebbe it's ugly, but it's mine!! :-)
All mine, in fact - two clips of the same clart tune (in case it's hard to
tell) that I recorded on two different occasions with two different sets of
mics in two different *experimental* configurations!! *Not* intended as
anything other than the combining of two separate, unsynchronised tracks
with a common start achieved by very kludgy means!!
Pathetic? Possibly, but an hour or two ago, I had no clue wot this is all
about and I have only had 4 recordings sessions, since I started...!!
(Estimated time to first *commercial* product - 17 years, give or take....!!
;-)
Anyway, the question is: Can anyone recommend a portable, digital two-track
recording gadget that doesn't cost the earth?? I've seen the M-Audio
'MicroTrack' and it's too much money at this stage of the game!
(Waterproof mic not required - I wasn't intending grabbing any
'whalesong'.....??? :-)

Very kind of you to say so, Tone - she *was* but is a bit rusty now....
The current *recording* fun and games are a bit of a ploy to get her back
into the swing a bit - here's a little Mozzer, if you're in the mood:

(It's a little bit too closely miked with me *very* grabby large-diaphragm
Oktavas - also, note the car going up the road outside, toward the end!!

Not to mention my nearest local venue where loads of classical
recordings have been made - St. Judes-Under-The_Flight_Path.

Multitrack? How many tracks?
Rule of thumb - if you hear this much of the performer breathing, etc.
you've miced way too close.
There's something odd about this recording. The strong peaks at 62.5 and
125 Hz seem to be misplaced for a recording that was supposedly made in 50
Hz land.

Multitrack? How many tracks?
Only two - it was just a *first time* exercise with new software using two
similar clips....

Yes, aware of that now, thanks - all part of the learing curve...

No idea. Maybe it was the little Yankee (Chinese) 'tube' preamps?
