Mains conditioners and power cables
Two ways to reduce mains "noise" I guess:
- stop the noise getting there in the first place eg replace all
cables, which is expensive - address the cause
- provide a level of "conditioning" to remove...

Mains conditioners and power cables
Can you explain in what way is/was it different?.....
Two things I noticed:
- the sound was much more "open", "musical", "grundge free" with the
balanced interconnects, was as though a veil had...

In my old house I installed a separate ring main just for the hifi,
with 3 double sockets. I'll do the same in my current house when I get
around to it, however with concrete floors its a tad more...

I can see that you lot are even more cynical than myself, wow! I would
never have believed it. You know, for the sake of £55 I'm tempted to
buy a PowerKord and prove you all right...or wrong ;) It...

Its the simple ideas that are the best :) This hydra thing does
exactly that as well as providing a convinient "multiway"
adaptor/strip. Or I could buy some nice MK plugs and shortern the

That's a good test - will try it. I think I did try it a while a go and
couldn't hear anything at all except with my ears up close to the
speakers.
I like the TNT "hydra" setup using that Maplin...

Which Goldring-Lenco turntable is this?
Its not the size of the house that's the issue but the speakers can't
go anywhere the wife can see them - which leaves a smallish loft room
:( I have a pair of EPOS ES30s in the lounge and I had to...

Which Goldring-Lenco turntable is this?
This GL 88 turntable was originally housed in a massive wooden cabinet
about 8' long by 3' deep, with two large lids which when opened showed
the turntable/arm/Quad 22/FM1 on the right, and a reel 2...

Upgrade Quad 303 or buy Quad 306?
My Father's ESLs are pre March 1966 so I'm sure he'll just have the 2
capacitors on a tag board - it was specifically to avoid overloading
with the 303.

Its an old 1960s unit housed in a separate wooden cabinet so there's no
arm or casing supplied - just the turntable platter itself that resides
in a "cut out" of the large cabinet deck. It has...

Upgrade Quad 303 or buy Quad 306?
My Father has a set of old (early 60s) ESL 57s, and when these were

voltage limiting board to the *speakers* so they could be...

a look on ebay and search for a Meridian 206 CD player, they look about
