Do speakers deteriorate with age?

I was speaking relatively so I am sure there are many ways to destroy
speakers. Apparently ammonia fumes do them no good but who lives in a cloud
of ammonia?

In the very start of digital some recordings looked fantastic on specs but
sounded crap, seeming like they had some kind of noise gate on them. then
came dither, which made recordings sound right...

Sounds about right. I assume you knew about the dodgy ram chips in the
Spectrum which had half the chip duff, and a link in the pcb to select the
working half only in each case.

Yes and his slide tuner scale was basically the same issue only in a slider
not a rotating pot.
If you replaced that with a multiturn as i did once to see if it worked, it
was miles better, but...

No its not, there are three. Technics very large one used by talking
newspaper, Sharp budget deck, and I also have a Denon here with three heads
that seems to always be suffering from speed issues...

Hmm, have you listened to the local bbc stations on the internet? the levels
are all over the place and most I think are still in mono.

This seems to have the number 21 in its name, so I guess I'll have to go to
the site to get the drivers then, otherwise I guess its just fixed at
