Setting Gains for multiple amps
Hi
I have completed my first install but need a bit of advice
on setting the gains properly.
I have read the FAQ section and understand the concepts involved
but I have a bit of a problem as I am using an adjustable Line
output converter which (to me at least!) makes the process more complex.
I just don't have enough experience or knowledge to know the best way
forward.
I have searched the net and found the following advice
on setting gains using an adjustable Line output Converter:
'Turn up the volume till around 50-60% of the maximum,
a reduced level is needed for often internal amplifiers
clip before the preouts on decks.
Using the proper tone for the desired clipping level,
simply set the gain on the amplifier all the way down.
Then turn up the LOC knob till you detect clipping.
This will allow the maximum voltage to the amplifier
(and thus minimize noise).'
Is this a good approach ?
I am also a little wary as I have 2 amps - an old Alpine 3522s running the
comps and a Magnat Xcite 600 (Bridged) running a Sub and am worried about
overloading the inputs on the Alpine or not giving the Magnat amp enough
signal.
Can anyone give me any advice on the best way to set the gains ???
Cheers
