I must admit I'm not really hot on car audio, I just like to have reasonable
quality sound and a good selection of music in my car. I had a Sony CDX-MP30
which I removed from my previous car before selling it. The new car came
with a Vauxhall CDR500 which is made by Delco. The sound quaility of this
unit is very good, so I didn't initially bother fitting the Sony.

Today I decided i'd had enough of swapping CD's constantly, so went about
fitting the sony MP3 player.

To be quite frank, the sound quality is **** poor compared to the delco
unit, even to my untrained ears. There is a very large amount of background
hiss which increases as the volume increases. The sensitivity of the tuner
is very poor too. I can't recieve some of the more distant stations that I
could with the delco.

I did not have the engine running at the time. I also unplugged and remade
all the connections in case of a bad one but this made no difference. In the
previous car, I did notice the hissing slightly at very low volume, but I've
recently had my ears syringed and can hear a lot better now. I assume this
is why I couldn't hear the hissing much before!

Is this typical of Sony head units (this was at the cheaper end of the
spectrum) or is it more likely to be faulty?
