Default Installing Alpine head unit in Vauxhall Corsa

"Dan Gilbert" wrote in message ...

The unit seems to require a direct power feed from the battery as apposed to
getting power through the cars general ISO connector. I thought that this
would be a "shop install" job but am pleased to see that the unit comes
complete with a boxed up fuse and really just needs the input to this fuse
connecting to the battery and a ground connection made.

You could always do what I did when I bought an Alpine with a similar
wiring arrangement - I couldn't be bothered with all the wiring
through to the battery, and I just cut the cable and connected it into
the back of a standard ISO connector, so that it was powered through
the loom in the time-honoured fashion. Assuming you aren't running the
thing at maximum volume all the time, this should be perfectly safe -
bear in mind that Kenwood's head units with high-power amplifiers draw
power through the ISO connector from the loom and don't bother with
the direct battery connection. I can't believe Alpine's HU's draw
*that* much more current - they are probably just doing it to be
awkward - and to increase the chances that customers will have to pay
an installer...
