Replacing Peugeot 406 audio
I want to replace the factory fitted Philips 4050 HU and CD changer on
my '99 peugeot 406 3.0l SE with an Alpine 7893R & MP3 changer. The HU
has been removed by the local peugeot dealer for repair, I do not want
to have this put back in, its a waranty repair only. So now that I am
left with the empty space I thought I could install the Alpine kit I
removed from a previous 306 I had.
Firstly I just want to get the HU working before adding the changer. I
bought from Halfords a ISO connector and proceeded to hard wire up the
power leads from the Alpine ( They are not terminated in a connector )
Using the supplied diagrams from the 406 & alpine handbooks, I
connected;
Peugeot Alpine
A4 (+) permanant - (8) yellow battery lead (I know it
sould go directly to the battery, but for test purposes at low volumes,
it should be OK- yes?)
A6 (+) Side-lights - (4) instrument dimmer
A7 (+) Accessories - (5) ignition
A8 Earth - (10) gnd
Both handbook seem to agree on the speaker ISO connector.
Well I connect and when I switched on the Alpine, all seemed to work
the radio found a channel, the disc which was in the HU's slot worked,
but the volume was low,and then I realised that the sound was coming
out of the front dash speakers, the tweeters, I could not hear
anything from the door speakers nor the rear Channel.
left inside the raios space in the dash was 3 connectors, 1 for the
changer, one for the stalk adaptor but what is the other for?
I've read a few post about multiplexed systems in peugeot, presumable
this is one.
Anybody got any ideas as to what is going on, what is the other
connector and id the power connector wired correctly, I asumed that
the block from the 406 was the power block refered to in the handbook
afterall it was wrapped together with the audio leads in the dash.
Please ... any help gratefully received
