Default Newbie with ICE Questions?

Hi Everyone,

Hope someone wouldn`t mind helping out a newbie

I`ve got a Ford Escort - 1994.

Im wanting to spruce up my ice as it sounds soooo Crap. As im a Base Freak
(Like having loads of base) my current config starts to loose sound and
crackle when turned up the slightest.

Ive got a Kenwood V6090R Stereo With Changer, Speakers are standered fit
(Yer extremly crap), appart from 2 x 6/92 Sony - 160 Watt 2 Ways wired in
Series to the back standered fit ones.

I`ve also got a Kenwood 2 x Channel Amp 300Watt, with nothing connected. I
am on a buget, so cheap and cheerful is good, althought i don`t want crap
that ain`t going to work.

Can anybody suggest and site for any help/tip`s and DIY advise. Things like
Ohms and Indepedicnce Advise aswell as Fitting advise?

Does anybody also know how i fit new speakers to a escort as the escort ones
seem to be a special fit.

I would imagine simply changing the speakers would make quite a difference -
Would i be correct? - Whats the best way to wire extra speakers in?

Ta
Si

Hi Everyone,
Hello

Everybody is a newbie at some point.

I`ve got a Ford Escort - 1994.

Fool. I did that once and learnt my lesson. As a rough guide only buy Jap,
German or Scandinavian. Don't bother flaming me, we're all entitled to out
opinions. )

You need a pyramid, they have more base than anything else. You're gonna
feel like a right plonker when you figure that out ;o)

That would be your problem. Remove the standard rear speakers, you have to
much load on your amp (in the head unit). Do speakers even work in series?

You could run either a sub or your exisiting 6x9's with that amp. The 47
Watts your head unit trickles out is really wasting the 6x9's, I'd be
tempted to use the amp to run them. It will improve bass and they'll be much
louder without distorting.

LOL, Is this your first car? Nearly all manufacturers have some kind of pain
in the arse custom fit speakers. You can usually get an adaptor from
Halfords for about £20 (I think). They made one for my Mk6 Escort and I'm
nearly certain there is an adaptor available for the Mk5.

Your car has four speakers, that's enough. Just replace them with something
better. Also, only ever run 1 speaker per channel. Overloading your amp will
not only make it sound ****e but it'll end up breaking...stuff.
Next upgrade would be a sub, I used to run twin 10" lightning subs in my
Escort and that was enough to bend the roof at full volume.

No problem.
