Default Laserline alarm

I've recently bought a car which has a laserline alarm fitted but didn't get
a keyfob with it. I did however get a key which disables the siren - this is
currently set to disabled but when I switched it on the siren started to
sound about 5 seconds later (possibly because the bonnet was open).

The only other thing I know about this system is that there are two sets of
4 DIP switches on the siren, and the number "948" on the opposite side of
the siren which I guess is the model number.

What I want to know is would it be worth getting a keyfob and trying to see
if the system works? How would I go about programming the fob to this alarm?

If I can't get it to work I'm going to take it out and fit a new system cos
I'm currently locking/unlocking the doors with the key which is a PITA, but
would rather do without the hassle if possible ;-)
