Default Astra estate - replacing rear speakers?

A friend has just changed his car to a P-reg Astra estate. I've fitted
his head unit and CD changer, but now he wants to replace the factory
speakers with something better.

The fronts are no problem, as the adapter kits are easy to come by. The
problem is replacing the rears. We've had the trim panel off, and the
speakers have an integral moulding, making them stand forward of the
metalwork. There's only a very shallow recess, certainly nothing deep
enough to put a "normal" sized speaker in.

But in spite of much searching, we can't find the appropriate fixing
kits for the rear speakers.

Anyone have any ideas?
