Default RDS-TMC in UK

I understand that RDS-TMC is now broadcast in the UK alongside the Classic
FM signal. I've a Merc Command system which is supposed to be RDS-TMC
enabled. I've also installed the latest discs. I've set up the unit to
create routes using RDS-TMC, and the radio then retunes automatically to
Classic FM, but I've yet to see any traffic messages on the screen.

Some questions:

1. I'm confused about why the unit would need to retune to Classic FM -
surely it receives the RDS-TMC output quietly in the background without me
having to listen to the 1812!

2. Has anyone seen any traffic messages in the UK from RDS-TMC?

3. Also www.rds-tmc.co.uk seems content free - but I cannot see anyone yet
talking about this in the UK- and I would have thought that the launch of it
would be "news" that at least motorists would be talking about. What's
going on!?

4. Anyone any idea what I need to do to receive traffic messages through my
system?

K.

In a belated reply to your message, you need a Navigation Disc with TM
codes for the UK. TeleAtlas have just issued UK 2004 with TMC codes
This costs £155. This is so expensive because, unlike in Europe, th
service in the UK is run by a commercial provider who takes its mone
via a charge on the Discs.

I bought one and used it on my Mercedes COMAND system yesterday. I
works quite well, as described in the manual. However it did flag
section of motorway as busy as i was drving on it and it was clear!

I can confirm that the radio needs to be tuned to Classic FM, but i
can be muted or you can listen to CDs or Tapes instead. I am with yo
in that I would like it on other channels as well such as BBC ones
However, I would imagine there is some exchange of money between the
parties so we are unlikely to see anychange for a while.

For further limited information you may look at the web site of th
provider company at http://www.itisholdings-info.co.uk/
