Default Gapless MP3 playback

I'm looking to buy an entry-level head unit that plays MP3-CDs.

I listen to a lot of DJ-mix style albums where the tracks should play
one after another continuously without a gap in-between files.

Does anyone know which head units support gapless playback?

Thanks, Patrick

I doubt any currently offer this feature... most will have a short gap
whilst the player reads the next MP3....

A workaround would be to rip your DJ mix style albums as a single MP3...
however, there are drawbacks to this such as having only one iD3 tag for the
whole lot rather than one for each track so if the unit displays id3 tag
info then it won't be super informative. Further drawbacks mean you'll need
to fast forward through the bits you don't like rather than just
conveniently hitting the track skip button.

That said... at reasonable bit rates you'll probably get upwards of 6 cd's
worth of MP3 (which would be 6 big mp3's) on a single CD

An alternative would be to get a CD-MP3 autochanger which will play both
your standard mix cd's in a gapless manner and your non mix mp3 cd's

Whilst off-hand I can't be helpful enough to state which units do this,
there are some that do. It's just a case of buffering the next mp3 before
the current one has finished, just like many good personal mp3 CD players
do.
A google groups search should show up some of the past recommendations in
these groups. When I last checked, the Kenwoods were one of the best for
this, again don't know model off-hand.
