How long do you expect to play a CD for, when stationary and not running the
engine?
I played one for 15 minutes today, in my new Sony CDXMP40, which has just
been fitted in my new (used) car which I bought last week (so I'm not
familiar with either, or the previous condition of the car battery), and I
ended up with a flat battery. Had to call a mate out with his jump leads.
I have standard-ish door and parcel-shelf speakers.

Change the battery...or you can test it and recharge

A lot longer than that, unless you're running a really powerful setup with
big amps + subs etc and playing it loud!

I'd suggest you get the battery checked, as it shouldn't go that quickly
(unless you'd done a few very short stop-start journeys beforehand, using
up battery power to start but not giving it a chance to re-charge).

Must be something wrong there, i'd get the battery checked.

During the height of the hot weather I gave my car a mega diy valet and had
my CD player on for well over 2 hours without the engine running with no
problems! I don't have any high power uber amplifiers or anything suchlike,
perhaps in cars with kev sound-systems this would be a lot less.

Yeh I'm going to buy a new battery. It'll be peace of mind with winter
coming.

Unless there was some other reason why the battery was 3/4 discharged or you
had some other load on (igntion and hence other stuff powered up) then your
battery is duff. Check the water level (if poss) and recharge off the car
over night at 3-4amps. Then have it drop tested. Bet you have a failed cell.

A lot longer than that, I had a 3.5KWRMS system that would kill a 680amp
battery in 1hr 15mins but my now much more toned down system will play for
over a couple of hours without problems. I think your battery was either
already pretty discharged or just dying.

Had the battery tested today - its fine.
Here's where I have to admit to forgetting that Volvos (my new used car)
automatically have the sidelights on when the ignition key is in the 'on'
position. What a plonker! Even so, I am still surprised the battery went
flat.
