Hi anyone who can help!

I'm trying to fit a Sony CDX-4180R into a 95 Ford escort and it's not going
well.

Firstly to check the player actually works i've plugged it into a 12v DC
power supply at home. Well when i say plugged. It's guess work.. I've got
the following.

Black (Earth) to Negative.
Yellow (continuous) AND red (switched) to Positive.

The unit goes into standby mode quite well, showing the clock and letting
you chage certain settings in a standy environment. But as soon as you push
the power-on button the unit powers up, FM1 appears and then after about a
second the unit powers down. It then tries to power up again, powers down,
powers up, powers down, etc, etc.

Are there any reasons for this? Is this likely to mean something is/has
shorted out inside?

Any help much appreciated. I can't find any manuals on line (and have none
apart from the installation one). Personally i think all manuals should be
online!
