Default GT car alarm synchronisation

Anyone know how to resynchronise a GT 142 car alarm?

No signs of life from it at all, car has been standing for about 6 months,
charged the battery, alarm went off, then was silenced by pressing the alarm
button. This makes me think it might be in synch and there's another problem
somewhere, but as the alarm is meant to do the central locking etc and
doesn't, I'm not so sure.

The engine turns over but doesn't fire. Might not be alarm related, but
worth a try.

Car is a 1990 XJ-S 3.6.

*HELP!*
