Hi Ben,
that's quite a difficult question. I replaced the front speakers + tweeters
first, and kept the original radio (RD1), then you hear very well that the
radio doesn't have enough power to drive the speakers. Then I replaced the
HU with a SONY mp850 and that was one hell of a difference !
Finally I replaced the speakers in the back doors and then the setup was
complete !
About the tweeters : I was told that a 2 way-door speaker and an in-dash
tweeter is the same as a 3 way door-speaker. And that's possible. What I
would advise is to put a 3-way door speaker (front) instead of a 2-way with
a cross-over for the tweeter, because in the latter case, you have to cut
the original cables to go to the crossover and then from the cross-over to
the doorspeaker and the tweeter, that's a lot of work !
And then something else : I have bought a 1999 Xantia with a Clarion 4035 in
it (original HU) and that sounds fantastic ! Even better then my Xsara with
Focal speakers, JBL speakers and SONY HU.
So now I wonder if the RD1 HU is the same for Xsara and C5 ?
If you want to discuss any further about it, please e-mail me personnaly.
Bye,
Fred

Great website Fred,
How much difference do better tweeters make to the sound?
I have a C5 and have already replaced the door speakers with Sony 2 and 3
way speakers.

There is one block for the power signals
A second block for the speakers
The third block should be for the CD-changer.

I've just installed a Sony MP40 Head Unit in an Aug 2000 Citreon
Xsara
2,
using the Connects2 Display & Steering wheel adaptor kit. This
replaced
the standard Phillips 22RC220/35Z Radio/Cassette.
It works great, but I am a little confused by the fact that the
old
Phillips
head unit had 3 multiblock connectors, whereas the Sony only
actually
uses
2. Therefore one of the multiblocks is left unconnected.
Anyone know what the 'unused' connector does in the original
installation?
TIA
Andy
