Default Help Needed - Budget Head Unit - Kenwood v JVC

Don't forget that the 701 DOES NOT do a changer!

Thanks Tim,

I went to hafords to look at both units and prefered the looks of the
JVC, that with a recomendation is enough for me, thats the one I've
gone with.

Cheers,

Phill.

Hi,

I'm looking to replace the very old CD player in my Camper van, I have
about £150 to spend, it must have IR Remote control (for use in bed,
it's a camper), output for four speakers and one output for my
existing external AMP. Oh and MP3 facility. I've been hunting round
the net and come up with two possible units but can't decide which to
go for, they a

Kenwood KDCW 6027 (£130 + £20 for RC = £150)

JVC KDG701 (£135 inc RC)

(prices from caraudiodirect.co.uk)

I bought a kenwood for my girlfriends car about 18 months ago and it's
been reliable if nothing special, the JVC however seems to include
most of the same features and includes a remote control.

So, does anyone have any preferences ? are they much the same ? are
there other units in the same price range I should consider ?

Any advice gratefully received,

Thanks,

Phill:J

I have just bought the JVC 701 from caraudiodirect (btw £199 in

Halfords!)
very impressed, sound quality is excellent. Remote works well. Not tried

yet
with mp3s but it will take up to a 320kbps data stream (also does wma

(but
not the secure ones)) the only negative point I can find (only had in 2
days!) is that the illumination (which is nice and bright) does not

actually
illuminate the legends for the buttons, only the actual buttons are lit.

You
need to memorise some! Other than that it is a cracking unit. For you

the
remote also does on and off. Could not find it in the manual (as I

write!)
but the fuse in the unit has 2 positions, I assume that in the other
position it runs of the continuos feed and not of the switched feed?????

NOTE the 701 does not do a changer or have the option for dab adaptor,

still
front and rear pre-outs, but no seperate sub output. You need the £15

more
expensive 801 if you want these features. From what I can tell the

upgrade
from the 501 gives you the motorised faceplate with colour display.
