Default interferance/whine when engine's running

hi all,
installed my system in my saxo the other day there, and it has a whine coming
from the back (2 amps in back, one for 6x9s and one for sub) which is
obviously interferance somewhere, cos it's engine noise. sort of
whistle/whine which is fine when engine isn't on,soon as car starts it kicks
in.
i've checked the earth for both amps ,and it seems totally fine. power for
both amps comes from the battery tewrminal,a friend suggested it could be
the alternator causing interferance (eg from a replacement alternator which
is unsuppressed ).
the stereo comes from the same power as the amps, and the front speakers are
fine with no whine (they aren't amplified, just powered by the head unit).
any help much appreciated,
col

Have you got the RCA's and the power load for the amps going up the same
side of the car ?

Cheers.

hi,
nope, different sides, though they sort of meet and cross over under the back
seat,so will try having a shuffle of them with the car running. easy enough
to lift the back seat and mess about with them.
will try that this afternoon.
cheers,
col
