Default Amplifier choice.

Hello,
I recently bought a Sony CDX-R3300 which i'm happy with but I fear may
be a little restrictive.
I've got a PDA using TomTom, and I want directions to come out of the
speakers, ideally over the top of music. (It doesn't bother me too much
if the music isn't dimmed.)
So, the problem being, this head unit has no aux inputs, and only have 1
pre out. So questions are;

1) If I have a 4 channel amplifier connected from the speaker outputs of
the head unit to high level inputs, will it sound crap?

2) I presume I could then use a low level input on the amplifier to
connect to the headphone jack on the PDA. Would this then play over the
top of any input from the high level, or would it have to be switched?

3) Is there a better way to achieve what I want, short of buying an
other new head unit?

4) Assuming I can do the above, and it is an OK way of doing things, can
anyone recommend a reasonably priced 4 channel amp for this purpose?

TIA,
N.

Shouldn't do.

I doubt it , probably needs switching.

Even if you do buy a new HU you would need to swap between input and
radio/cd to get the tomtom directions.
I'd just buy a tomtom car kit with its own speaker.
It really is much easier.

Hmm that probably is going to be more straightforward. I also had a
thought.. Does anyone do one of those little FM transmitters that can
send a traffic report signal when it senses it has input?
That would be ideal, although I'm sure there are quite a few technical
complications.

It can be done but only with additional circuitry, TI flag is sent on the
side band IIRC 57KHz

That would be ideal, although I'm sure there are quite a few technical
complications.
