Default Fitted a new Amp - it's cutting out

Hi,

Just finished fitting a new Toxic TX1000 amp - it worked fine while I
was testing it in the garage. With the engine running or when starting
the car the amp shuts down (in protect mode). I've checked for shorts
carefully and can only judge that it's not overheating. The power is
taken directly from the Battery and it has a solid ground.
The car is a Clio. Could the battery or alternator be causing a problem?

Any help greatly appreciated.
