Default aerial question

i am changing my car stereo and found a device that the roof aerial
connects to, but dont know what it is.

it's about 8.5 cm in length, looks like a silver barrell, aerial lead
goes in one end, out of other end is thick black aerial cable that goes
to stereo & a thin white aerial whic i am not sure where it goes. i am
not sure if the white wire goes to a ground or +12v.

I think it is some knind of amplifier. the white wire was connected to
one of the cd changer terminals on my old stereo.

any help appreciated

German or Japanese car?

If it's German, it'll be a signal seperator unit, which looks like
this http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_p...p?partno=PC552
It's needed with a lot of OEM aerials to provide phantom power to the
aerial amp. You'll need to leave it in place, and connect the power
lead to the electric aerial output on the radio.

If it's Japanese, it'll probably be a bandwidth expander, fitted to
shift the tuner's range from Japanese to UK frequencies. If you fit an
aftermarket unit, you can probably bin it in most cases.

Default aerial question

On my Saab 93 1999 my electric aeriel has stopped retracting when I switch
off either the radio or the car. Any suggestions how I might solve this?
