Default Tape stuck in HU

Thaught I'd clean a demag the heads on my Kenwood head unit.
Big mistake. It's swallowed the cleaning cassette and wont give it back.
The Maplin head cleaner I used has what looks like a fabric tape, which
is probably the problem.

It's a Kenwood KRC 678R with a built in cassette and CD magazine controller.
It must have some sort of cassette sensor, as normally, if a cassette in in
the head, the SRC button cycles through TUNER, DISC, TAPE, and ALL OFF.
Now, although it's swallowed the tape it doesn't 'see' it. 'TAPE' no longer
appears in the options, so the tape 'eject' button doesn't work.

Question is. Is there some way to get it out without taking the case off the
HU?
I seem to have mislaid the manual so I don't know if there's anything in
there about it.
After all, I assume you'd have the same problem if a tape broke.
TIA.
Mike.

Has the tape "dropped" into the deck, or is it only halfway in? If only
in and not "down", you can use tweezers or a knife or something to
slowly pry it out. I have done this a few times when the playing
hardware is not fully engaged..

hth,

Jeremy

Thanks for the suggestion Jeremy, but it was all the way in.
I was hoping there was an easy way to get it out, but it's out now, after
removing the HU and opening it up last weekend.
Less hassle than I thaught it would be, as the top panel of the HU was only
clipped in place, and the release mechanism is easy to operate manually.
Mike.
